Preparing and setting up data for Dynamics AX is not an easy task. What is a plus, Microsoft has prepared the demo data to be used for the educational purposes. It is the best option for beginners to start working and gain experience with Dynamics AX.
If you have access to the Partners source or Customer source, you can find demo data here. It is recommended to use Internet Explorer for downloading it. Click the Contoso Demo Data, enable the Microsoft File Transfer Manager, specify a folder, and click OK.

We have loaded the demo data. From now on, you can start working with Dynamics AX: reviewing different modules, entering purchase or sales orders, etc. Dynamics AX covers a lot of different business processes. It is a very interesting world where you can learn both business processes and their implementation in Dynamics AX.
I am planning to prepare the DAX trainings for the DAX 2012 Financial, Trade & Logistics, and Production modules with this demo data. Please follow me on Facebook to be aware about the training updates ?

Since my system is empty, and would like to have some demo data, i downloaded it from customer source. I managed to overwrite the 2 databases successfully. The one which has the data and the model database.
This process takes hours and hours with respect to your machine.I encountered few errors in the process but, nonetheless everything worked fine. After completion, I found demo data inside my dynamics Ax 2012 R3.See the screenshot below which shows the Contoso Demo Data loaded on AX 2012 R3.
When I initially learned AX 2012, before it got released, I was quite enthusiastic about the security changes and the organization hierarchies. Then also I learned about the eXtensible Data Security (XDS) concept. While working on one of my first AX2012 implementations, I also had to do a presentation for a Dutch community. The topic was about the Organizations and Hierarchies. While preparing the session, I suddenly got the idea to combine security role assignments, organizational hierarchies and XDS. After the presentation, I lost the demo and objects used at that time. For another presentation during the Summit EMEA in Dublin this year, also about organizational hierarchies, I decided to create a new demo. In a former blog, you can find the link for downloading the objects for this example. (Extensible Data Security examples for Microsoft Dynamics)
For the demo I used out of the box examples, like the Retail operations manager role and an organization hierarchy. The retail operations manager is at least able to see the retail stores and related transactions. Now assume that in this organization there are multiple retail operation managers which are responsible for their own group of retail channels/stores. It was decided to restrict access so, they can only view data related to their own channels/stores. The Contoso demo data, has about 35 retail stores.
In prior versions of AX, one of the nice features was that you could export almost any form to Excel. Whether the data was vendor records or general journal lines, it was a very well-liked feature even though the data was static. However, there were some forms in which AX did not provide an option to export to Excel. Specifically, account structures were not able to be exported to Excel. Fortunately, this crucial setup form can now be exported to Excel. Additionally, the data can be exported to Excel, altered, and uploaded back into D365. Below I will demonstrate how this can be achieved.
Most professional usually download the demo virtual machine from microsoft partner source, and use Vmware, Virtual Box or Hyper-V in their main laptop. Mount the vhd to the virtual machine application and spend three hours to configure the setting before the virtual machine can be used.
In order to perform the testing, you have to download the VM here - customer source account required. You can also learn a bit about WAX by looking at the demo scripts in the VM download page, but there's no script for inbound process. You can consider this article as a WAX demo script, since it only takes less than 2 hours to fully perform.
The next step is to generate the ODataProxy. This is done in the Microsoft.Dynamics.DataEntities project. This basically means creating a bunch of classes that reflects all the metadata. It will give us a class, so that we can assign values to Odata fields and execute methods etc. But first we must specify where all the metadata can be downloaded from. In the picture below, you see that this is just a hardcoded string in the OdataProxyGenerator.tt file.
The Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Data Import/Export Framework(DIXF) is an AX module import and export data in Microsoft Dynamics AX. We often use it in data migration projects to load legacy data from old systems. I was wondering if I could use DIXF as an automated integration, without any customizations. I wanted to see if I could have a folder where new customers are dropped in a folder, and then the DIXF automatically picked up the file, and imported it.
To really impress potential buyers of Dynamics AX, it is important that we are capable to show that AX 2012 responds fast. We normally use the Contoso hyper-v demo environment, and our laptops have limited resources. Starting a demo on a cold system, we often see that forms takes some time to operate in optimal performance. If you already have opened a form, it is much faster the second time you open it. 2ff7e9595c
